Crowns, Fixed Bridges, Removable Dentures/Partial Dentures

If you are missing a tooth or several teeth, you may be in the process of researching options available to you. Here at Friedman Family Dental in Glendale, we offer dental crowns, fixed bridges, removable dentures and partial dentures to fix missing tooth problems.

Dental crowns

A dental crown acts as a strong covering for a severely weakened tooth. It is a permanent restoration and will last a long time if you take care of your teeth properly. We use tooth-colored porcelain or zirconium material to create our crowns.

Crowns are used in several circumstances including:

  • to add extra stability and strength to a weakened tooth due to a large filling, a root canal procedure or cracked/broken teeth.
  • to cover the abutment teeth before placing a fixed bridge.
  • to replace a missing tooth when it is attached to a dental implant.

Fixed bridges

Fixed bridges are a good choice for patients who are missing one or more teeth, but still have some natural teeth and are in decent oral health. One major difference between a partial denture and a fixed bridge–a fixed bridge is a permanent structure and a partial denture is removable.

That means you don’t have to deal with messy denture adhesives and other inconveniences that go along with removable appliances (i.e. slipping, discomfort, etc). Fixed bridges are much easier to take care of–just brush your teeth as you normally would.

Removable Dentures and Partial Dentures

Dentures are removable appliances that are used to compensate for missing teeth, allowing the patient to function normally. Patients who are missing some or all of their teeth are good candidates for dentures or “partials.”

There are two types of dentures: complete and partial. Complete dentures replace all of a patient’s teeth and partial dentures are used when a patient still has some of his or her natural teeth.
